Want to take your stargazing to the next level? Why not try a night SUP (stand-up paddle board) in the Kerry Dark Sky Reserve, the only gold tier reserve in the northern hemisphere!
Ed and Oona are the brilliant team behind Wild SUP Tours, and they also offer their SUP adventures at night, in the heart of Ireland’s Reeks District, on Caragh Lake which is in our back yard.
SUP tours are great for any skill level, from total novice to expert, and the night SUP is no different. Your evening starts at sunset, as you pull on your wet suit (if you don’t have one the team in Wild SUP tours will provide one), hook your light to the back of your board and step into Caragh Lake. As you start your journey on the lake, the last bit of light fades, and the stars come out. The lack of light pollution In the Kerry International Gold Tier Dark Sky Reserve, means you see the star constellations and planets as they were seen by your ancestors. The lake is so peaceful, its an experience like no other.
After your paddle and star-gazing around Caragh Lake, the Wild SUP Tours team will have a lakeside campfire ready with all the ingredients for smores, the perfect post SUP snack.
Not only is a night SUP on Caragh lake unique but it is also one of the steps in the Reeks District Big 5 Challenge. Mark this challenge off your list with the great team with Wild SUP Tours.
Tours are offered on Friday nights but can be arranged on other evenings for groups of 6 or more.
Day time SUP’s are also available on Caragh Lake or on the River Laune which runs from Lough Leane in Killarney, through Beaufort and Killorglin.
Get in touch with us if you want to add a night time SUP or day time SUP to your stay in Kingstons.
